With summer just around the corner, outdoor enthusiasts around the Pacific Northwest are preparing for one of the busiest outdoor recreation seasons. As I headed out for another adventure, I made sure to pack the essentials – camera gear, food & drinks, extra clothes, and my new KEEN Targhee III Waterproof Mid boots. My friends and I left the suburbs of Seattle, Wash., and headed for the mountains. In just a few short hours we had arrived at our home for the weekend, an A-frame cabin amidst the mountains and rivers of Skykomish. We unpacked, strung up a few hammocks, and planned for a weekend of exploring.

Our first destination was Deception Fall’s National Recreation Area on HWY 2. This area offers easy access, free parking, and a looping trail with views of Deception Creek and the Tyee River. I slipped on my new KEEN Targhee III Waterproof Mid boots for the first time and ventured onward toward the sound of rushing water. I was immediately impressed by the comfort of the Targhees. Almost every hiking boot I’ve worn has had some amount of discomfort and “wear in time” but this was not the case with the Targhees. The Metatomical footbed design provided an internal support mechanism that is anatomically engineered to provide excellent arch support and cradle the natural contours of the foot.

It was time to put these boots through some tests! The Targhees’ feature KEEN.DRY technology; A proprietary waterproof, breathable membrane that lets vapor out without letting water in. No matter how many riverbeds or mud puddles I trekked through, my feet remained warm and dry. The leather mud shield offered resilient durability without making the boots too heavy.

The weekend’s second destination was Coleman Falls just outside of Ellensburg. With ancient basalt rock towering around the falls, it’s a steep and slow descent. Luckily, there is a rope tied around the tree at the top for assistance on the descent. While navigating around cliffsides and slippery terrain, it’s important to have the proper footwear, luckily the Targhees had me covered.

After two days full of exploring, my feet remained blister-free and ready for the next adventure. There is just something about the mountains that make you feel small and insignificant but vast and limitless at the same time. For those of you who find the mountains calling you often, there is no better hiking boot for you then the KEEN Targhee III Waterproof Mid boots. For now it was time to rinse off my new favorite adventure boots and relax. We settled back into the cabin and reminisced of the weekends fun.
